Zakynthos on DVD and as DIVX - Download

Our video trip around the island starts in Zakynthos Town or Chora, as the residents call it.

After sightseeing in the central part of the island, we go on to explore the Skopos Peninsula and Vassilikos with its large number of beaches like Porto Zorro, Ionian Beach, Daphni and Gerakas Bay,one of the most important nesting grounds for the Mediterranian sea turtle "Caretta Caretta".

Later we visit the well-known Laganas Bay along with the areas of Laganas - the video shows here also some nightlife sequences - Kalamaki and Agios Sostis. Finally our first tour ends with a grand view of the Keri rocks and the Marathia mountains.

The next excursion starts in the morning hours visiting the Venetian Castro above Zakynthos Town. We go on to see the eastern beaches. Starting from Akrotiri, passing Planos/Tsilivi, Tragaki, Alykes, Makri Galos (all these places are offering wonderfull beaches) we reach the most northern part of the island with the port of St. Nicholas, the Skinari Lighthouse and the famous "Blue Caves".

From there we go up to the village of Volimes and then directly to the spectacular Smugglers Bay with its famous Shipwreck known all over the world, a picture found on so many postcards and calendars. In the immediate neighborhood our camera also records impressions of the Monasteries of St. Kremnon and Anafronitria, the latter being the most famous on the island.

We move on in a southerly direction using the road in the highlands where we find typical mountain villages like Maries and Kiliomeno; we proceed from there to the natural ports of Porto Vromi and Limnionas, as well as to the fantastic observation point of Gambi, situated on a 200 meter high cliff. Afterwards we reach Macherado with the imposing church of "Sainte Mavra".

Finally the video also shows some winter sights as well as a few pictures from the Zakynthian carnival -- a welcome tradition since the Venetians occupied Zakynthos some 400 years ago.
